I think a lot about how we can become the people we need to be to shift paradigms & sustain a healthy world. My work intersects with decolonizing, healing, storytelling, cultivating communities of belonging, stewarding our planet, protecting what’s good for all living systems, and disempowering what isn’t.
I've been an educator-activist for 18 years. In different chapters, I've been a spoken word coach, created university-approved coursework on Oral Expressions, helped teams of teachers explore their internal biases and transform department culture to be more equitable & inclusive, and built programs from the ground up to close gaps in the educational system.
Along the way, I've learned a lot about the balance it takes to address systemic issues on one hand & on the other hand to hold safe space for people to do their inner work of self discovery & growth. Both are needed to sustain radical change.
I've been doing my inner work too. From becoming a certified Kundalini yoga teacher to spending years learning from Indigenous teachers & communities about healthier ways of being, my journey has led me through self-healing, self-inquiry, and self-expression.
In this chapter, I'm crystallizing all my strands of work, learning, and being into a framework I call story work. I teach story work now to paradigm-shifting leaders, guiding them to deepen their own process of becoming & knowing.
My mission is to support a community of thriving voices from the global majority who will reverberate their necessary knowledge, imagination, and ideas for the liberation of our best collective futures.

Joey lives and works in Taiwan, the ancestral lands of many Indigenous peoples, including the Amis, Atayal, Bunun, Kanakanavu, Kavalan, Paiwan, Puyuma, Rukai, Saisiyat, Sakizaya, Seediq, Thao, Truku, Tsou, and Yami peoples, and in Hawaii, the ancestral lands of the Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) people.
My collaborator, Malia, lives and works on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Tongva (Gabrielino), Tataviam, and Chumash peoples, who continue to steward the Los Angeles region to this day. We acknowledge the painful histories of colonization and honor Indigenous communities who maintain their kinship with these lands.
We recognize our deep interconnection with the more-than-human world—the waters, mountains, forests, and all beings with whom we share these sacred places—and the responsibility this kinship demands of us. We commit to supporting Indigenous sovereignty and environmental stewardship through our work.
